If you fail to prepare; prepare to fail as my old mate Ian always reminds me!

Travel Hacking for the budget traveller

From destinations to flights and timing, travel is often a bit of a game where you can play the system. Retirement for me is a chance to play the companies at their own game. Last minute deals, out-of season travel, off peak deals:  you don’t need to be rich to travel if you are willing to be flexible and put in a little legwork.

Sure you can ask a travel agent or a specialist travel company for an itinerary but it will be dearer and there is so much you can do yourself online.

And there are lots of online site and apps to help you plan the perfect personal trip, whether it’s sightseeing, culture, history, music or nightlife that you want to soak up.

Research

If you are on an all-inclusive break or a cruise, there is probably not much else you want to do except take in the sights and soak up the sun. But, if you are more independent, like me, organising your own itinerary or activities, you might some extra intel or reconnaissance. Head to our research pages for help on everything from app to maps and languages.
